What is GPA to Percentage Calculator?
The GPA to Percentage Calculator translates between the 4.0 GPA scale and a percentage grade. It is a lookup, not a universal formula, because schools define their own percentage bands — but the calculator uses the most common US convention (93%+ = 4.0, 90% = 3.7, 87% = 3.3 and so on), which is what most applications expect when they ask you to self-report a percentage.
Common Uses for GPA to Percentage Calculator
- Convert your 4.0-scale GPA to a percentage for an application that asks for one
- Turn a percentage grade into GPA points for a scholarship form
- Sanity-check a converted grade you received from a credential service
Common GPAs as percentages, answered
A GPA converts back to a percentage band rather than a single number, because each letter covers a range of percentages. A 3.0 GPA is a B, which is 83–86%; a 2.0 GPA is a C, 73–76%; a 4.0 GPA is an A, 93% and above. The table reads every exact scale value off the same bands the calculator uses — A+ and A are both 4.0, which is why they appear twice.
| GPA | Letter grade | Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| 4.0 | A+ | 97–100% |
| 4.0 | A | 93–96% |
| 3.7 | A- | 90–92% |
| 3.3 | B+ | 87–89% |
| 3.0 | B | 83–86% |
| 2.7 | B- | 80–82% |
| 2.3 | C+ | 77–79% |
| 2.0 | C | 73–76% |
| 1.7 | C- | 70–72% |
| 1.3 | D+ | 67–69% |
| 1.0 | D | 63–66% |
| 0.7 | D- | 60–62% |
| 0.0 | F | 0–59% |
In-between GPAs: 3.4, 3.5, 3.66 and friends
Real GPAs rarely land exactly on a band value, and a 3.4 or a 3.66 has no single percentage answer. What it does tell you is the two bands the average sits between: a 3.4 is just above a B+ (87–89%) and short of an A- (90–92%), so it reads as roughly 88–90% on most transcripts. The rows below bracket each commonly searched in-between GPA — the percentage span is what those two bands cover.
| GPA | Where it sits | Percentage span |
|---|---|---|
| 3.9 | between A- (3.7) and A (4.0) | 90–96% |
| 3.8 | between A- (3.7) and A (4.0) | 90–96% |
| 3.66 | between B+ (3.3) and A- (3.7) | 87–92% |
| 3.5 | between B+ (3.3) and A- (3.7) | 87–92% |
| 3.4 | between B+ (3.3) and A- (3.7) | 87–92% |
| 3.2 | between B (3.0) and B+ (3.3) | 83–89% |
| 2.8 | between B- (2.7) and B (3.0) | 80–86% |
| 2.5 | between C+ (2.3) and B- (2.7) | 77–82% |
| 1.5 | between D+ (1.3) and C- (1.7) | 67–72% |
